Hi, I'm due to start 6 rounds of chemotherapy with FEC-T on the 17th July and am really scared about what the side effects will be.  I am having this post-operatively as my cancer was not confirmed as Triple Negative until they carried out a biopsy on the lump they removed. So I visited the oncologist expecting radiotherapy and ended up with this! Has taken time, and a second opinion, to make my mind up and I am wondering if I have done the right thing.

  • Hi

As we have no targeted therapies chemo is the only treatment available to us to try and prevent a recurrence. Having said that I was terrified when I first found out I'd need chemo.

I have to say it hasn't been anywhere near as bad as I thought. I've lost my hair, most of my eyelashes and have a very tired day per week (I'm having my T weekly and first). But I've had no nausea, no vomiting I still have all my nails and my mouth is so far fine.

Listen to your body as much as you can. I have two young children and tried to do too much at first which lead to me getting very very tired.

You can and will get through it xx

    Hi

Sorry i haven't replied sooner I've been away. I had FEC-T and had a brilliant response to it. Try not to worry about the SEs everyone is different and just because it happened to me won't mean it will happen to you.

I'm cancer free now so it was all worth it. Take a look in The Breast Cancer Group there is a monthly chemotherapy chat group this is the one for July you can chat to people who are going through the same as you or who have been through the same. I found it very supportive when i was having my chemotherapy, lots of people with advice and tips. Before you know it you'll be giving advice and tips to others.

Most of all keep coming and chatting to us, well help you get through this.

    Take Care x

Thanks Script Fan. When you say you had a brilliant response to it, do you mean that it shrank your tumour?  My problem - or one of the many - is that I have already had surgery, which was supposedly successful, so this is more to try and destroy any cancer cells that are busy making a home elsewhere in my body.  I'm working my way through the links you sent and I'm sure they will be helpful when my mind has settled enough to take them in.  Pre-Chemo Appointment yesterday so back in the Slough of Despond this morning!

The MRI I had after my chemo showed no signs of cancer, my tumour was 6cm when I started. All the cancer hadn’t gone but it definitely reduces it in size.
