Secondary Breast Cancer - Triple Negative

Hi everyone, I was originally diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in Oct 2022, 2 days before my 40th birthday.  I also had a hormonal breast cancer in the other boob. After chemo, lumpectomy, radio and immunotherapy, the triple negative came back very quickly and very aggressively. Last week I was told the new lumps in my breast are triple negative and it has returned in the same spot and has been spread to my lung. The mastectomy is on hold indefinitely now because I will be put on chemo pills. I was told people who are successful on these chemo pills, live for an average of 3 years. I am devastated, I am only 41yrs old. I am not done with life.

Is there anyone out there that has lived longer than 3 years with secondary triple negative breast cancer? If so, what is your quality of life? How long did it take until it spread to the brain? Are you constantly under aggressive treatment? The survival states are so depressing, I thought maybe I could find some positive news from real people going through this in real life?It doesn't help actress Shannen Doherty has just died from secondary breast cancer. Its caused another wave of grief and sadness.

Thanks for anyone that responds.

  • I am so sorry that you’re going through this. I was recently diagnosed with TNBC so I am just starting on this horrible journey. There are lots of new treatment options now.  Have you gotten a second opinion? Another hospital or team may have other approaches to offer. Is the chemo pill they are recommending a PARP inhibitor? Holding positive thoughts for you. Heart️
