Hi - I've 2wks ago had an auxiliary node clearance and lumpectomy & am struggling with swelling at the top of the arm and around the wound.
My surgeon is keen for my lymphatic system to heal without draining (conscious the fluid would return & potential repeat drainage would be needed). I'll be having radiotherapy in 4-5wks.
Can anyone share experience of fluid retention? I'm very concerned about it becoming Lymphodoema. How long before the swelling & retention subsides?
HIya, I had a Mastectomy and Axillary node clearance 2 weeks ago and I had two drains in for just over a week, then they started leaking so were removed. Since then, like you, I am slowly filling up with fluid which is really uncomfortable. I am having it looked at by the surgeon tomorrow and think it will be drained. I am also concerned about the fluid returning and whether this will have an impact on my starting chemo in the next few weeks. Sorry I can't tell you how long before this subsides ( really soon I hope! ) but thought I would share anyway!
