Hi im not sure if I've asked this question before but I had thyroidectomy in july 2024 for small  low risk papillary carcinoma thyroid cancer just wondered if tsh should still be suppressed as tsh in December was 2.64 endocrinologist said it was fine. Also endocrinologist discharged me cause parathyroid was just in range at 2.7pmol and reduced adcal to 1 a day but calcium now gone mildly low, gp has increased adcal to 3 s day and writing back to hospital for advice, just wondered if anyone thinks I should be referred back to endocrinologist

  • Hi

I'm just 'bumping' your post back to the top of the discussion list.

  • Heya I've been told that they would like my TSH suppressed to 0.3 for five year (mt TSH level is 23.2at the moment Face palm)

I had complete thyroidectomy in early December for oncolytic thyroid cancer, which is a bit more aggressive than papillary.

Do you have an oncologist? or neck nurses that you can ask?

  • This is a tricky one.
A lot of endocrinologists don't know much about thyroids - especially not thyroid cancer. At one point, my GP was going to refer me and then said "They're all clued up on diabetes and stuff like that, but you probably know more about thyroids than they do".

I suspect, if you want a referral, it should be back to your oncologist rather than an endo.

    Best wishes

  • Hi I was not with oncologist for the thyroid, I was with one for melanoma which im now on surveillance. Endocrinologist replied back to gp and said to go back to 2 adcal a day, gp never contacted so I contacted them my gp is away and another gp messaged me to do Endocrinologist advice and blood test in 6 weeks that was a week ago, my gp still not contacted. I was thinking of asking gp for a note to reduce my working hours, as I'm currently doing 43 hours and my job is quite physical in a school catering as general assistant. But not sure as worried what people will think.
