Diagnosed after 4 years of being told all was OK

Hello,

I was diagnosed August 2025 with papillary thyroid cancer, having 4 years prior and over a few years being told it was a U2 (no further action required) I'm struggling with the diagnosis. Not necessarily the cancer itself but the fact it was in my body for so long without generally feeling unwell, has left me with a bit of health anxiety.

I went Private in the end as the nodule was pressing on my throat and I was choking on water and food, with no other reason than for this to stop happening.

The histology confirmed 35cm on cancer in the 52mm nodule and my thyroid was 5cm x 6cm and was under my collarbone. I had a hemithyroidectomy and currently on TSH suppression. I also found out I had Hashimotos.

I'm not sure what else to add but due to how far it had gone I do have other health issues that may be as a  result, and weight gain it just won't shift.

Is there anyone with Hashimotos and still have half their thyroid?

Thanks for reading

I can't answer it myself as I have a different cancer, however by me replying your post will be "bumped up" to the top of the page and I hope seen and answered by other members of the thyroid cancer group.

I wish you well moving forward.
