Hello everyone
My name is Tony, I am from Dublin originally but now living and working in Derry in Northern Ireland. I am 49, and will be turning 50 in December.
I got diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer 2 weeks ago after spending a week in hospital getting various tests done including a biopsy which is where the diagnosis came from. I have spent the last 2 weeks trying to get my head around it all. It doesn't feel real, and doesn't feel like it is me when I talk about it.
I had my first ENT appointment this morning in Derry's Altnagelvin Hospital but there had been a mix up about my results. The doctor couldn't see the results that my GP had sent and they were suggesting that they would have to re-start the tests until the previous results had been uploaded. But they found them, but basically too late in my appointment, so I have to go back tomorrow morning again, and will hopefully know more tomorrow.
Tony
Hi Tony
Welcome to the Online Community.
I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis of thyroid cancer 2 weeks ago. I remember what a worrying time it was when I had a diagnosis (of a different kind of cancer).
I hope that your appointment went well and that you now have some clarification about your diagnosis and what your treatment plan is. I know myself that once I knew what may happen and when things felt a bit more real and under control. I know exactly what you mean about it not feeling real at the moment.
We do have the Support Line available from 8am-8pm everyday if you feel like talking things through would help.
This link has some information that may be of help but if there is anything else you need, please do ask.
