Hi All
I have recently been diagnosed with Pancytopenia .
No idea if this has got something to do with my thyroid cancer(since 2010) and my radioiodine treatment , or is the side effect of my suppressive dose over the years (My T4 always been between 25 to 35 way above the normal range).
Has anyone experienced similar diagnosis after their thyroid cancer?
Thanks for any help or advice.
I looked it up. I'm not going to attempt to interpret it but it looks like all your different types of blood cells are lower than they should be. Red, white and whatever the other one is - rose maybe?
I don't know your history. Have you had repeated rounds of RAI over the years or just a bit back in 2010 (snap, that was when I got my TC too).?
If just the basic RAI, I'd be really surprised if any impact was still around 12 years later.
As for having high FT4, I would expect that to impact on your heart and blood pressure not what's going on in your bone marrow.
Best wishes
Barbara

Hi again
I just had one round of standard basic RAI in 2010 and have been in remission since.
You are right about the effect of long-term suppressive dose on heart and blood pressure ,and apparently there are other parts of body too but is not as common .
When out of limbo , i will know for better or worse the reason.
Thanks for your help and information.
An update
Have been diagnosed with Hairy cell leukemia.
After almost one year having Pancytopenia I have finally got the bone marrow result back as HCL.
My haematologist is very confident that all the markers point at classical type.
As my platelets are below 100 , they start my treatment soon.
Absolutely gutted.
Having dealt with one cancer was't enough to start all over again dealing and coping with another one.
But hey , i am still here and not yet ready to kick the bucket.
I do only hope the treatment's side effects not to be too harsh .
Thank you for your kind words.
