I’m new to the group. 6 months post diagnosis and had thyroid removed fully. Awaiting radioiodine treatment next week following two last minute cancellations due to production failure. Anyone bee. Through this and can reassure me about it?

  • I believe we have spoken in a different thread @Butterfly, but would say I was anxious too and as it turns out there was nothing to be anxious about.  My treatment was on the 21 Dec and I felt fine afterwards.  I felt a little nauseous a couple of days after getting home, I ate my Christmas dinner with no problem, but did feel off it for a couple of days after (and no it wasn't my hubby's cooking lol).  I was given 2 lots of tablets, one to protect my stomach, the other were anti sickness pills, and I was told to take the first one half an hour before the RAI pill, which certainly must have done the trick. So for the couple of days I felt a bit off I took a pill which helped again.  I have had a little swelling in the region where my Thyroid was but nothing too bad and I hope that means the RAI has got to work on it.  Best wishes for your treatment and I hope they sort the supply issues out with RAI pill.

  • That’s reassuring to know. They have to tell you the worst cases I know but it’s just so daunting. Hopefully it’ll go ahead this time - 3rd time lucky Fingers crossed tone1  Thanks Blush

  • Hi

Welcome to the group. I had RAI back in July, I was in hospital for 4 days and it was very isolating - I read a lot and watched telly. When I left I only had restrictions until the next day which was good. The morning following the dosage, my neck and face was very swollen and sore but I was given pain killers for that and the swelling had gone by the time I left hospital. My taste altered for about 6 weeks after and immediately after I was very tired for a few days. I still get the occasional ‘stab’ in the neck which I’m presuming is things still working. I’d advise taking lots of things into hospital to keep you occupied.
