Hi everyone !
I had a hemi thyroidectomy in July after a 2 year ‘watch and wait ‘ approach with a slow growing thy3f. The surgeon was as shocked as I was when it was removed and turned out to be a 3 and a half cm carcinoma with a second one growing in a lymph node nearby . I’m going back in on Wednesday for a completion . It’s been 8 weeks . Did anyone else wait this long? It’s felt like a lifetime . I’m confused as to what this second one was ( a micro papillary carcinoma of 3mm) as they said it wasn’t from the original????? So what was it then? And I’m a little confused as to why I urgently needed to have the rest removed but it’s okay to wait 8 weeks?? Anyone had a similar experience? Xxx thanks everyone
Hello
I think you probably got lost in the Covid mess and whilst they've called it 'watch and wait', I don't think operations were happening very much during that time.
8 weeks is not an extreme time to wait for completion. I went private and my gap was 4 weeks, so 8 weeks isn't extreme. These cancers are slow growing. Urgent probably means "don't leave it as long as they left the first one".
Best wishes
Barbara
