Hi, back in December, having found a lump in my neck I had a biopsy and was told that the lump on my thyroid was benign. Last Wednesday I was told that the lump was in fact cancer. I did not see it coming. Three tumours were found in a second biopsy following a left thyroidectomy that I had to push for. I’m now due to have a total thyroidectomy on Friday.
I’ve been told I have T1(M) papillary thyroid carcinoma. The MacMillan booklet really helped me get some perspective on this.
I’m still processing the news and so is my family. I also now have trust issues because of the initial benign diagnosis which, if I had taken the “wait & see” advice would mean I’d be none the wiser that I had cancer as I write this. I want to educate myself and especially to educate myself about what to expect after my thyroid has been removed and what I can do to help myself & my family through this. Blessings. X
