Mum noticed lump on neck 3 weeks ago made appointment with GP who took bloods and made referral which was 7 weeks away. Lump getting sizeably bigger over the next few weeks ended up at out of hours doctor who were great and expediated things. Unfortunately appointment at ENT with ultrasound confirmed it was Thyroid cancer now waiting on results of biopsy to find out what kind. I’m worried sick it’s anaplastic with it growing so quickly should get results in 7-10 days. The waiting game is a nightmare remember it too well we lost dad 20 months ago to Prostate. As if poor mum doesn’t have enough to deal with she has Alzheimer’s the plus side to that she can’t remember being told she has cancer.

  • Hi and welcome to the Online Community. I'm sorry to read about your Mum's diagnosis - it must be so hard for both of you, she can't remember she's been told she has cancer and you coming to terms with this new diagnosis plus the loss of your Dad. My heart goes out to you both.

I've a different type of cancer but I can see you've joined the group which will give you lots of support and I'm sure someone will be along soon to welcome you. As you said the waiting for results is exhausting, we all agree on that.

It’s always helpful to others if you write a little something (or a lot) about yourself and your mum's journey to date. You can enter it into your profile (click on your username and select “Profile”) It’s helpful to other members with a similar diagnosis who can then hopefully answer your questions. It also means that you don't have to keep writing the same thing over and over. You can amend or update it at any time.

To find more information covering diagnosis and treatments there are pages covering most types of cancers which can be found on our Online Information and Support Section
