Hi
My 14 year old daughter was diagnosed a few months back with Papillary Thyroid cancer, she has had a total thyroidectomy and RAI treatment. Just wondering if there are any other teenagers going through the same?
Thanks
Hi and a warm welcome to the Online Community. I'm sorry to read about your daughter's diagnosis at such a young age. I hope she's doing well after her op and RAI treatment.
I myself have a different type of cancer, I hope someone will be along soon to answer.
It might be a good idea to take a look at Diagnosed at a young age group, you might find some helpful advice there.
It’s always helpful to others if you write a little something (or a lot) about yourself and your daughter's journey to date. You can enter it into your profile (click on your username and select “Profile”) It’s helpful to other members with a similar diagnosis who can then hopefully answer your questions. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. You can amend or update it at any time.
The Macmillan Support Services also offer lots of information, support, financial guidance or just someone to listen. It’s free to call 0808 808 0000. Most services are available 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week. Hi Kmh80,
Being a teenager is difficult enough without a thyroidectomy thrown on top. I am a lot older than your daughter but I saw recently that Demi Rose from Love Island had a hemi thyroidectomy and then a completion. She's only in her early 20s but it might be someone your daughter could follow on social media/relate to? She's very positive and has shared about her journey so far. She's due to have RAI treatment soon.
Oh and the Tenage Cancer Trust might be a good place to look too for teenagers going through similar experiences or help/ advice.
Best wishes,
C
