Hello everyone!

I was told on Friday I have thyroid cancer, and tomorrow will be meeting with the team to discuss my care.

Apart from the mental toll the main thing I’m struggling with is fatigue and muscle aches/pains especially in my legs. Also really bad brain fog - I’m struggling with my memory a lot.

did anyone else suffer with this before surgery? My thyroid levels are all ok but I have 1 3cm growth plus another smaller one underneath it. Can’t help but think those pushing and growing on my thyroid must be having an effect, but obviously my mind is spiralling thinking it’s spread and my diagnosis is actually worse.

I have an 18 month old too so the fatigue really can do one for all I care Sweat smile

  • Hi meeshyb,

Welcome to this forum but sorry you find yourself here.

Yes I for one certainly suffered all of those symptoms before. The fatigue in the end was debilitating. I went from running 10Ks to hardly being able to walk 1km! My TSH the GP tested for was "in range" too. It's not a helpful indicator. I was misdiagnosed as having menopause for a decade so that didn't help!

Some people though don't seem to have any symptoms at all before their thyroid cancer diagnosis so there's no second guessing this one.

I hope your team will be able to explain things clearly for you tomorrow. Take someone with you if you can, it's all a bit of a blur of information. Or if not, take a notepad and write down as much as you can.

Do let us know how you get on and ask any questions. Best wishes.

  • Hi!

Thankyou so much for replying it really helped settle my mind. My appointment today went well and I feel much more confident about my upcoming journey. The surgeon basically agreed that the fatigue is a result of what I’m going through, and probably from the mental toll of everything.

I read your reply just before I went to bed and it really helped me rest so thankyou again!

  • I'm glad I was able to help a bit. Quite often once we have a clear plan in place, it can calm the anxieties down. Just make sure you give yourself time to recover and heal after your surgery. Having gone into it already fatigued, you'll need to allow yourself to rest properly. Just listen to your body. I know all that's easier said than done with an 18 month old but just have it in mind. Any questions that crop up, just ask. There's usually someone about to reply. Best wishes.
