Hi,
I wondered if anyone can provide some advice or if anyone has gone through the same as me.
Long story short, went to GP with multiple large lymph nodes that weren’t going down and some growing, I went to ENT and they found a nodule which they biopsied, this first one came back inconclusive to which they sent me for another. I did a second biopsy about 3 weeks back, this came back inconclusive aswell, stating THY3f (follicular lesion cannot be excluded) well dr google told me they would just chop it out, so when I went to see a thyroid surgeon today I was so prepared for this outcome. The surgeon basically told me they weren’t going to do that and that it was either Watch and wait to see how it carries on growing or do another biopsy today! I chose another biopsy but I just don’t know how many of these they will continue to do!
I just wondered if this has happened to anyone else, I’m so at a loss, I understand why they don’t want to take half an organ but I’m so so so tired of waiting and so anxious that I could potentially have cancer growing in me. When is enough enough and they take it out? Sorry for long rant :(
I would say if you’re not sure, don’t be afraid to challenge and ask questions. I arrived for my biopsy and the consultant refused at first saying he could see from the screen it was U2 and didn’t need a biopsy, he eventually agreed after 15 minutes of discussion challenging the professionals who had sent me for the biopsy for not being the experts. Two weeks later i had been discussed at the MDT, I was told U3/U4 but cytology was Thy5 and indicates PTC and I am going in for surgery next week… ask them to help you understand why that is their decision and if your like me, look for your local trusts guidance (most are available online).
Thank you for your reply, wow I’m sorry that happened, to think they would have turned you away! It’s so scary. I do understand why they don’t wanna take half of what could be a healthy body part but I did feel like I didn’t really have a say, they discussed my anxiety around it all and I said I don’t know what another biopsy will do at this point but she just went right ahead and did it anyway.
I will try look online for that guidance, maybe I’ll try and contact her again
i hope your surgery goes well and your recovery is speedy
Hey, I had two FNA's one. THY3A then after MDT meetings referred to surgeon but in meanwhile so another FNA which came back THY3F, however I had also been diagnosed previously with Graves disease and my Thyroid blood levels weren't right.
My FNA and ultrasound showed suspicious features though aswell.
I know this is an awful time isn't it! The waiting which happens with all of this is just awful!
But hopefully you'll be good x
Hiya, I hope you get it all sorted soon too! The waiting about is honestly so hard for me, with the nodule causing symptoms aswell I just want an end date lol. I have also been sent to have checks for my thyroid like my t3 and t4, hopefully the bloods will shed more light!
wishing you loads of luck with everything too x
If any comfort, in this time of going through it, I wish it all goes like it did for a friend I knew. She had similar experienve and eventualy had whole thyroid removed Cs of cancer and 2 courses ofadiotherapy with final good results and life long medication. Hold on and hopefully things will be OK.
Hiya Lazodre.
Would you mind telling more about what is US3? Is it ultrasound 3 or abbreviation for cancer grade? I am new and only had 1 ultrasound now awaiting to be seen by local hospital gino department under 2ww urgent pathway for cancer. Many thanks in advance.
Hello, US3 is the ultrasound grade, I was told by the consultant in my area anything US3 and above would be removed but it’s my understanding it isn’t the same everywhere. Once a fine needle aspiration (FNA) is done this is then sent of for cytology testing to look at the cells which are then graded thy1-5.
if you have any other questions please message me and I can try to answer them.
