Hi everyone

I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer September 2023 , left love had 2 small nodules which were tall cell and metastatic to one laymph node out of 15 in left neck , righ lobe had bigger nodule 6 mm with classic papillary and in right side my surgeon didn’t take any lymph node for biopsy, now 6 months after surgery I can feel quite large lymph node in right side. The thing I am wondering in January( two months ago)after idion therapy had full body scan which shows 3 uptake in thyroid bed ( central and lowe neck) . My doctor said thats normal and not worried . Now I can feel large lump in lower neck. I am upset at my doctor because he didn’t take any lymph node from right also said thats normal uptake, I am worried if it already reached to my lungs or bones, anyone has any idea

  • Hi Elahe I'm sorry you're going through this , it's such a worrying time and the worry doesn't go away once you've started treatment. My thyroid cancer (medullary) is treated differently as it doesn't respond to iodine treatment and has to be monitored through blood tests, so all I can advise is to tell your team your worries. Contact your Specialist Nurse and speak to her, also the Macmillan helpline will be able to talk through your concerns too.

Hopefully others will reply soon who have similar experience with the papillary variant.

Let us know how you get on x

  • Like you, for various reasons, I struggled to find my voice with my consultant following my diagnosis in January 2022. You must find your voice and not let go until you have answers/explanations that you understand. Can you take a trusted friend who understands your fears and can speak up for you? For me, it was the not knowing that made me spiral into depression and I found knowing, even the bad news, so much easier to cope with ironically. Do you have a Maggie centre near you? Their counsellors ( they are free) helped me find my voice and pulled me back from a very dark place during my treatment. Big hugs. X

  • Hello thank you for your response

I had ultrasound yesterday the right side lump I had found it seems benign but they found a lymph node in left side which looks abnormal, doctor told me I have to wait because I had Mmy RIA in January and she said it supposed to be 6 months after RIA to biopsy. I am worried now is that normal to wait I am thinking if the cancer invade bones or lungs in this three month

  • Hi Elahe, sorry to hear they've found an abnormal lymph node. Unfortunately I don't know much about RAI and time scales to biopsy, the thyroid cancer variants react and grow differently but I'll try mentioning some more members that might have your variant and be able to help more. If not, could you get back in touch with the Dr who just found the abnormal lymph node and ask more questions? Mbow, Trinity trace, Ocean23
