i had pet scan for some problems and they found out i have one lump on my righ lobe of thyroid, and one suspicious lymph nodes in left side
they suggested FNA after 2 stressful weeks i am diognosd with papillary thyroid cancerin right lobe, and lymph nodes in left was diagnosed with folliculary thyroid cancer while there was no any other lump on my thyroid ( exept right lobe with papillary)
i am wondering is some else has same situation, or is there a chance FBA was diagnosed wrong foliculary ,
is that possible right lobe thyroid’s cancer metastasis to left left lymph node
i am extremely nerves
Hi Elahe and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
It's natural to have lots of questions when you've had a cancer diagnosis. I don't have experience with this type of cancer but hopefully others who do will be along shortly to share their experiences with you.
While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
It is not uncommon for people to have both follicular and papillary thyroid cancer. In reality, it makes no difference to your treatment so please try not to stress over the specific details.
The only thing I would say is that it's exceedingly difficult to diagnose follicular variants from FNA - so that might turn out to be papillary or a follicular/papillary hybrid variant when they actually get it out. Since it's generally papillary variants that go to the lymph nodes, I'm also somewhat sceptical.
But, like I said, the treatment is the same for pap and follicular and for combinations of the two.
You don't mention what the other issues were that led to a PET scan but this is an unusual way to find out that you have thyroid cancer.
Whatever those problems were, that PET has enabled your thyroid cancer to be found much sooner than would otherwise have been the case.
Best wishes
Barbara

Hello
thank you for your response I had pet because I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer 2 years ago as part my of check up doctor ordered me Pet , my ovarian cancer was stage 1 , and there was no concern related to ovarian in PET
they accidentally found out thyroid lump
my main concern is
they found lymph node ( left side neck)which shows metastatic from follicular thyroid cancer but where is main lump? I have just one lump on right lobe is diagnosed with papillary,
is there any possibility left lymph node is metastatic from my right papillary and they just misdiagnosed papillary as folicular in my lymph node
thanks in advance
I can't answer that. All I can tell you is that follicular nodules are hard to confidently confirm without surgery to remove them.
And repeat that it really won't make a significant difference to any treatment.
Taking conclusions from tiny samples is always open to error. Once you have the lumps surgically removed, everything will be much clearer.
Best wishes
Barbara
