Hi all. Went for my ultrasound yesterday and was expecting to have a FNA at the same time. They did a thorough scan but said the nodule was between a 2 and a 3 whatever that means but it was too close to a blood vessel so therefore would be too dangerous for a biopsy to be taken. Has anyone had that before? I think she was suggesting that we just monitor it but when I asked if after monitoring it looks like it has to be removed would they be able to do it? Didn’t really get a proper answer but was told the surgical team would be in touch. Don’t know what to expect now!
Hi Jonno77
That must have been extremely disappointing to discover that the doctors weren't able to conduct a biopsy because the lump was too close to a blood vessel.
I can't help with your question of what to expect now but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.
While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and tests to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
I would suggest to ask these questions to whichever doctor it is who sent you for the ultrasound.
I can understand it would be worrying to know that the location is a bit tricky - but my guess would be (and it is only a guess) that if the lump is very small, they'll let it grow a bit bigger so they can get a better access to it for biopsy.
IF they docs wanted to remove it - once it's bigger and they are more convinced it's dodgy - they will work VERY carefully to get it out without damaging the blood vessel. It's probably less tricky to do that when they can see directly what they are doing rather than trusting to a US (which to me always looks like a load of grey fuzz).
Best wishes
Barbara

Hi Barbara. Thanks for your reply. I have a doctors appointment at the end of the week so will ask him if he knows what’s happening but really think I just need to wait for the surgical team to get in touch with me but wasn’t given any indication of how long that might take. I think you’re right about them wanting to see if it gets bigger so it will be easier to deal with. Does sound a bit like letting it get worse before making it better though. Haha I know what you mean about the grey fuzz. I was looking at my US and wondering how they can tell anything from that.
