Hi
Just a quick question, does poorly defined mean the same a poorly differentiated?
Many thanks
Florence
No. I don't think so.
And please don't go googling too much about thyroid cancer when you're still quite a long way away from any diagnosis. You'll just worry yourself unnecessarily. I'm a great one for saying "Information is power" but it's only power when it's relevant and timely. Too much too soon is just food for confusion and anxiety.
Poorly differentiated means that the cancer cells no longer behave fully like thyroid cells. That means they're not so receptive to radioactive iodine treatment for example. Poorly defined probably means that the lumps or the thyroid are a bit fuzzy on the CT scan.
Keep in mind that you had a CT scan that can't even identify if you have cancer, and for sure it can't determine whether it's differentiated or not.
IF CT scans could diagnose thyroid cancer, we'd all be getting them - and they are not part of the standard diagnostic procedures.
I hope that reassures you a bit.
Best wishes
Barbara
