Hi,
Just wondering if anyone else has had this feeling!
I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in January this year, I am awaiting surgery to have the rest of my thyroid removed. The last couple of weeks i have had a feeling that there is something stuck in my throat, i can eat and drink fine but its that feeling in my throat more so after i have eaten and drunk something. I was at the hospital this morning to be referred for my op, and i told the doctor, he said he couldn't feel anything in my neck and didn't look too concerned. I thought i would have a scan as well to check to see if there was any changes since my first op in November but that didn't happen either.
Just wondering if anyone else out there may of had anything similar and if i should be worried at all.
Thanks
Hi moz14. I'm not actually from this group but noticed you've not yet had an answer.
I think trust your Doctor is the best thing to say. He knows what he's looking for and if he didn't seem too concerned then try not to worry too much - easy to say, impossible to do. It might be a psychological effect caused by anxiety. If it persists then go back and push for a scan. Also have a chat with your CNS in the meantime to set your mind at rest.
All the best, B x

Hi,
Thank you for your reply! I will keep a check on it and see how it goes. I have possibly got myself worked up with everything that's been going on and it could just be my anxiety, as much as i try not to overthink things i always do!! Fingers crossed i get an op date soon.
Michelle
HI moz14,
I have the same feeling as if there is a tablet stuck on my throat or when pushing with a finger the neck near Adam's apple. The difference is that my first op was only a month ago. I've had the same feeling for 4 months before surgery but stronger than now and hopefully is part of the process. My second op is going to be in a month from now and when asked the doctor he said the same thing as you, He also said that on surgery day they scan thoroughly before operating and promised he will check. All the best!
Gianni.
Hi Gianni,
Thanks for your reply! It’s good to know there is other people out there feeling the same. Although the feeling has eased slightly in the last week I was getting worried that it would be something that would get worse once I’d had the final op.
Good luck with your op, I am sure it will all be fine and this feeling will go away for both of us!

Hello
This 'lump in the throat' topic comes up quite often in this group and there are usually two possible explanations that I've seen and which you can check with your doctor.
The first is the 'emotional lump in the throat' factor. You know when you watch a really sad film and you get the 'lump in the throat' feeling and you can't swallow? Well for people who are finding dealing with their cancer quite emotionally challenging, you can get that happening.
The other explanation can be something called 'silent reflux'. We used to have a thyroid cancer specialist to support the group (I'm going back a few years now - she was AWESOME) and she told us about that. I'd suggest to pop 'silent reflux' into the search bar and pull up some of the past threads on the topic. It can be solved with some antacid-type medication, but you'd really want a doc to confirm it's that before you start messing with even OTC medication.
Please let us know if you find out more.
Best wishes
Barbara
