Hi All,
Possibly nothing to worry about here but feeling a bit anxious about it and wanted to see if anyone had a similar experience, especially during Covid.
I had a total Papillary TC and a complete Thyroidectomy 6 years ago and have been all clear ever since. I was getting regular blood tests and ultrasounds at the cancer centre before Covid, but up until this week hadn't had any for over a year. The last time I met with my oncologist she told me that I was at very low risk of recurrence and she was looking to move me on to annual appointments in the near future, so I wasn't too worried when I was struggling to get an appointment at my GP for a routine blood test.
I finally did manage to get one earlier this week, and I had a call today from the receptionist saying that the doctor wanted to discuss my results. We've arranged a telephone consultation for Monday morning but I'm climbing the walls a bit with worry thinking that it could be a recurrence.
Has anyone had a similar experience?
Everybody has a bit of a panic but nine times out of ten, the doctor's surgery calls you in because the GP had a quick look and one or two things don't fit 'normal' and they've forgotten that you're NOT normal and your results shouldn't be.
Most likely, it'll be that your FT4 is higher than they like or your TSH is way below so-called normal.
Honestly, I would recommend not panicking about this as it's more likely an error of the surgery's understanding than something you really need to worry about. If you are outside your target range, you can just adjust the dose to get back there.
Let us know how it goes, please?
Best wishes
Barbara

Thanks Barbara, this had crossed my mind and I think it's what I needed to hear so much appreciated
Looking back in the rare dealings I had with the GP back when everything was happening there was usually a bit of confusion, whereas with the oncologist it's always been plain sailing. I think it's just been a while.
I'll update on Monday either way after I've spoken with the GP
Hi, I'd second what Barbaral said. More than likely doctors not recognising your results are not in the stereotypical range. Did you have any other tests done? When I get my thyroid bloods done I usually get iron, calcium etc. I had B12 folate deficiency which I had similar phonecall about. Hopefully all will be well x
Just a quick update, as you've both said it was just a bit of concern from the GP over fluctuating TSH levels. She asked how long I had been on my current dose of Thyroxine and if I had been taking any other medication that may have impacted this at all. I haven't taken anything that I can think of so I've been asked to alternate between 150mg and 175mg per day and go for a follow up test in 6 weeks to see if it has made any difference.
Thank you both for the replies : )
