Hello everyone
I'm just after people's thoughts really.
I had my total thyroidectomy almost 2 years ago, followed by rai treatment. All went well but my thyroglobulin levels were never low. They've been fluctuating ever since and last time I saw my oncologist in November the level was 3.7 (from1.7 in June). So he's not happy. This time he said I have antibodies so he suspects there is a cancer somewhere but too small to show up on a scan.
I asked if I would be going for rai again, he said probably!! But the hospital has a covid problem and he's keen to have me stay away for now. He's increased my thyroxine and I'm due to see him again in March.
I can't help but feel worried and a bit anxious about it all. Of course I want to get it sorted but I don't want to risk getting covid. It's a dilemma...
Hi there, my cancer story so far is pretty similar to yours, please take a look at my profile and you will see I have just had my second surgery before Christmas. I'm doing well, only got one vocal chord working at the moment and hopeful my voice will return. My next appointment is on the 18th January and will probably need another dose of radioiodine. If I have one bit of advice it would be to keep reminding yourself that our type of cancer is a slow grower and try not to worry about having to wait to find out where it is RIGHT NOW. I'm not saying it isn't important but it took a good year for mine to get big enough to be investigated properly. So put your trust in your doctors and try to put the cancer a little further back in your mind, believe me, I have my moments but I try to just enjoy the here and now. I wish you all the best.
Thanks
Very interesting information. I'm trying to put it out of mind. You're right there are a lot of similar things in our stories.
Happy New year to you and yours
X
Do you know what your TSH level was, please? If the doctor increased your thyroxine dose because it wasn't high enough, it could be that the undersuppression has boosted the level of thyroglobulin slightly. Once the TSH is properly suppressed, it could be that the Tg goes back where it was before.
Best wishes

0.14
Means nothing to me I really don't understand these figures at all
Thanks
0.14 is pretty close to target. I'm surprised that the doc wanted to increase your dose. At that TSH level, it's likely that the increase in Tg is real and not due to undersuppression. Sorry. It is still a very low level though, so it's not like anything is rampaging through your body. You have a bit of remnant thyroid tissue. That's what's pumping out the Tg. It's not necessarily cancerous.
Best wishes
