Hi everyone,

hope you’re doing alright in these extremely bizarre and tricky times. As if life could get more complicated (haha!)

so, the government says radiotherapy patients are at high risk. Now, I don’t believe that RAI affects us in the same way standard radioactivity does, however I’m not really basing that on anything other than Thyroid Cancer is usually an anomaly in everything and the treatment is fairly non-invasive ie. doesn’t damage us as much as other treatment. But, that being said, the health anxiety in me is completely triggered by all this and I’d be really keen to know what your thoughts are. I had a high dose of RAI about 4 weeks ago, I also had vascular invasive follicular carcinoma.

thanks so so much in advance and sending lots of hugs to everyone at this time!

  • Heya Charlotte,

RAI isn't radiotherapy in the way the government are talking about radiotherapy. If you look at the very vulnerable criteria on the government website, the only radiotherapy mentioned is a specific type for lung cancer.

If you look at this link here - community.macmillan.org.uk/.../cv-19-and-post-op-thyroidectomy - I've explained things a bit.

Hopefully that will answer your questions and worries, but if not then please do shout and ask away!

  • Hi Lass and Mark,

Thank you so so much for replying. Both responses have calmed me down massively - very grateful. Now to get my bloods done tomorrow and through my (probably phone call) follow up next week.

Thank you so much again! Hope everyone’s doing alright x
