Hi everyone,
I had total thyroidectomy on January 2017 and RAI the following month. On January 2018 a had a whole body scan and ultrasound that came back clear, but my Tg (stimulated with Thyrogen) was 6,2. 8 months after that I got pregnant, so I didnt have another whole body scan or stimulated Tg until last week.
So, January 2020 body scan came back clear, but stimulated Tg was 2,6. Looks like I won't be getting undetectable levels anytime soon.
My endo says not to worry and that there is no reason to have another round of RAI. We will just keep checking my Tg every 6 months and have regular ultrasounds.
Does this sound normal to you? Anyone with a similar story and if so, did you end up having another round of RAI?
Many thanks
P.S: I live in Greece

Welcome to the forum, though I'm sorry you need to be here.
The good news is that while undetectable is what they aim for, it's not often achieved. Detectable TG doesn't mean that you still have cancer, just that you still have some thyroid cells left in your body, and 2.6 means it's not a lot at all. So it's quite common to leave people with TG that low to be monitored, because the risk of RAI is greater than the risk of those cells hanging around.
So they'll monitor your bloods each 6 months, and maybe an ultrasound every 12 - that might be different in Greece to here - and they'll keep an eye on things. You will also be on thyroxine, at a level that should stop those cells from reproducing and multiplying. So if anything starts to change, then they'll pick it up on the blood tests and then take it from there.
But honestly, this is nothing to be concerned about and should be taken as a win. So have a wee celebration and then enjoy moving on from this!
But any questions, do give us a shout anytime you need to!
