Hi everyone
I’ve been following for a few months and decided to take the plunge and join you all today
I’ve been going through a challenging 15 months with thyroid cancer: FNA; Hemithyroidectomy; Total Thyroidectomy; Central Neck Dissection and RAI. The cancer had spread into my lymph nodes, which meant 2 x 5 hours of surgery. All of this has resulted in me having hyperthyroidism and hypocalcemia. It’s an ongoing struggle to regulate my levothyroxine and I’ve experienced a dramatic weight loss and have had an average of 4-5 hours sleep per night over the past year or so. My calcium is constantly low and showing no signs of improvement. I have TG antibodies, so I needed to have an ultrasound scan in December (10 weeks after RAI) and it highlighted 2 small nodules. Due to this, I was sent for a CT scan to look at these in more detail and have just been informed today that this scan was clear of cancer. While I was delighted to hear this news, I feel confused and wondered if anyone had experienced anything similar to this? My guess is that my Ultrasound was done too soon and the RAI has since removed these nodules, clearing out any remaining cancer? I’m seeing my consultant in a few weeks, but any thoughts/advice would be really helpful.
Thanks for your help!
Hi Lou45 and a very warm welcome to the online community.
I'm sorry to hear about everything you've been going through recently.
As I had a different type of cancer I can't help with your questions but by replying to you it will 'bump' your post back to the top of the page where someone with the right experience will hopefully see it and reply.
When you have a minute it would be really useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
