Hi guys, hope everyone is doing well,

I haven't been on here for ages ,I've been trying to stay positive and upbeat,it's been a tricky time ,my best friend has been diagnosed as terminal with pancreatic and liver cancer ,2of our other friends have verbally stated that I should be glad I'm not her etc etc .which has cut deep as I am a very positive person ,this led to a massive flare up of my condition.

I have now been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, and have had 6 UTI since Rai treatment, seeing urologist on Tues 5th,so all in all a very emotional few months ,I have kept myself to myself and concentrated on my family and my friend ,who is doing well considering,I don't hear from the other 2and I don't want to , accusing me if attention seeking and bitching about me not being glad I'm not dying is not what I need,it's not a competition,my cancer nurse rang me out the blue yesterday as I never contact them ,to see how I was ,so a good yap with her helped ,my point is today I just wanted to say hello, and touch base ,I'm feeling ok ,has anyone else had repeated UTI ?...it's abit of a worry :)thank you xxx

  • Hi Bubble3

So sorry to hear about your friend, sometimes it just feels like everything goes wrong at once.

As far as your other so called friends! I think they’ve showed their true colours. You don’t need friends like that. We mustn’t ever feel bad for struggling with our cancer diagnosis, we are all too aware that there’s people out there who aren’t going to win the fight, but that  doesn’t mean what we’re going through is easy.

I remember the day I came back to work after my op etc( I was signed of for a while and on antidepressants as I couldn’t cope with my diagnosis) my colleague turned to me and said, if you don’t want the job, there’s plenty out there who do, I burst into tears.

Fibromyalgia, my sister has suffered for years with that, so I have every sympathy. Hope you get to the bottom of the UTI’s, that will wear you down too. Anyway, not much advice in my post, but I just wanted to say hello, look after yourself,

    All the best

  • Hello again Bubbles,

Nice to see you back, though I'm sorry it's because your friends are being twats. I think I'd have replied with something like "I'm as glad that I'm not in her position as you are", because I'm pretty sure everyone, everyday, is glad they arent terminal. (unless they are obviously) So it's just a stupid thing to say to anyone.

UTIs like to come on with stress, especially if there's a bit of an infection lingering still. Have you changed washing powders or products recently? Have you started using new soap or gel in the shower or bath? Have you started using wipes of any sort to clean yourself with? Have you bought new underwear recently? Have you stopped drinking as much water as you used to? All of those could cause a UTI, and if you don't change the cause, then it'll keep reoccurring.

    Hi lass,

Thank you ,I replied something along those lines ,over nice to ,rather than getting aggressive, which isn't me usually anyway ,but the flare that followed was awful :(.  Ice not changed anything at all ,but if a mystery at the min ,but be glad to see urologist tomorrow to see if they have any clues ,they are quite painful ,in my back ,and don't know if fibro makes it worse ?hope you are doing ok love ?:)hugs!xxx

  • I know a couple of people with fibro and stress us the last thing they need because of the flare ups. So definitely time to start Tai Chi, mindfulness, meditation, etc to find your zen in every situation. Fingers crossed there won't be anymore stupid things said meant in a good way. Sadly, lots of people just don't think before they open their mouths. So well meaning comments come out as callous, uncaring, and thoughtless.

I don't know enough to say if fibro makes UTIs worse or not, but my feeling is not. It just sounds like you've got a deep rooted infection that isn't being fully killed off by the antibiotics your GP has given you, so it keeps coming back. The pain in your back could be kidney related, which bad UTIs can affect.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow, do let us know what they say. I'm off for an ultrasound tomorrow on my boob as I've got a lump. Not worried about it though, as it's probably a cyst. But we'll see what they say.
