Hi. I'm new here. In December 2024 I had surgery to remove my thyroid and lymph nodes on the right side around my neck and collarbone. It was a difficult time for me and my family. It's been almost 4 months and I'm still struggling with fatigue and discomfort when swallowing. I'm waiting for radioactive iodine treatment and then further tests because I have small nodes in my lungs and one between my spine and kidney. Has anyone had something similar and what was the further treatment like?
Hi M.T. welcome to the forum. Although I had bilateral neck dissection and chest dissection for affected lymph nodes, I don’t have any experience of the further spread. I’m sorry to hear you’re dealing with this. But I hope this may be of some help.
I had chronic pain and fatigue for over a year after my surgery and it affected me very badly, especially mentally. Have you been referred to an Endocrinologist who is prepared to really listen to how you feel, not just get obsessed by your thyroid test result numbers? If you don’t feel they are listening, I would ask for a different Endo. My T3 and T4 are at the higher end of range now but I feel so much better in myself there. (I take combined therapy, T3 aswell as T4). My fatigue has gone, I still get tired but not that drop dead feeling no sleep will touch and I can get through my day well now.
Have you been referred to the swallowing team? If you speak to your CNS or consultant you should be able to get a referral and they should help you. My swallow has changed and it took me a long time to get used to it but I have adapted to it now (nearly 2 years on).
If you look further down the posts I think Gelli posted about lung mets?
Best wishes x
