Hi everyone,
i haven’t been here for a while. Hope everyone’s doing well.
After rai I became pregnant unintentionally. I would have conceived around 4 months after a low rai dosage. At 8 weeks I started bleeding and then the scan showed that the baby stopped growing at 6 weeks. I ended up having a medically managed miscarriage a week later as it still hadn’t completed naturally.
Even though the pregnancy was an accident myself and my partner were devastated we had been really happy and making plans for the future. We have decided to try again as I am 35 and don’t want my age to become an issue in trying to have a healthy pregnancy. I’m now 8 months passed rai and my consultants know I am trying to conceive and have agreed to monitor through bloods and ultrasounds rather than the planned body scan. I saw my radiation consultant last week and he increased my eltroxin but says he was happy that there was no sign of antibodies increasing.
im really worried that being on eltroxin may make it difficult for my body to maintain a pregnancy when we conceive again. Has anyone else been through this?
Hi Linda
I’m so sorry for you and your partner. Particularly hard as you have just been through all your treatment and I am sure wanted to have something positive to look forward to.
19 years ago I lost a baby at 19 weeks which was really hard, particularly as we has got over the 12 week. I then went on to have healthy twins.
Please be kind to yourself and spend time with your partner.
Best wishes for the future
Hi
thanks for your message, I’m so sorry that you went through that. It was awful at 8 weeks so can only imagine how hard it was being so much further along xx so happy for you with your twins xx
i have a 13 year old and brought him up on my own and now have finally met the right person and really hoping to be able to have a baby together. We’re saving to build a house together and he’s great with my son and we are happy. He doesn’t have his own children so I’m really worried in case I have another miscarriage. He’s said if it doesn’t work out with being able to have a baby he’s still not going anywhere but I know he really wants one and I do too now that the circumstances are right. So close to finally having the family I want
Hey Linda,
I am so sorry to hear about your miscarriage, and I can't imaine how you must be feeling at the moment.
I've not been through it myself as I cannot have kids, but there are plenty of ladies on here who have had successful pregnancies while on thyroxine. If you do a search through the group then you should find a few posts about it. Your consultants are aware that you're trying, which is the main thing, so they'll be able to monitor you and keep your levels where they need to be for a happy, healthy, and successful pregnancy.
Please don't dwell on your loss, and don't blame the thyroxine for it. My non medically trained opinion on it is that it was the remnants of the radiation that sadly caused the miscarriage. The egg probably just wasn't quite right which is why the baby stopped growing. So now that you're well past the suggested period, the radiation shouldn't be an issue anymore.
So all being well, and my fingers are crossed, you will hopefully soon be pregnant again with no problems or issues.
Good luck and do keep in touch!
Lass

Thank you Lass
We are trying again so hopefully things will work next time. The consultant adjusted my dosage after most recent bloods and knows I am trying so I hope he got it right.
I will go back and search for the previous threads on pregnancy, maybe seeing some positive outcomes will help x
Hi everyone,
just wanted to provide a happy update in case anyone going through something similar finds this post.
shortly after my last post I found out I was pregnant again. I was afraid to update here in the early stages in case anything it went wrong again but I am now 21 weeks pregnant and had the big scan yesterday to check for any abnormalities and it’s a boy and he looks perfect
Thanks for the replies of support on the original post I really appreciated it xx
