My daughter had her thyroid removed last September but her radiotherapy was delayed due to her being 16 weeks pregnant. We now have a perfect grandson. My daughter was just about to start radiotherapy this month but she discovered more lumps in her neck. We had it confirmed this week that the cancer had spread into her glands. CT scan has been performed and she has been told she will have to have a neck dissection. We are so worried about her and would like to hear from anyone who has gone through this and learn more about the surgery and outcomes. Thank you
Heya Dunder,
First off, congrats on your new Grandson!
Secondly, I'm presuming it's RAI - radioactive iodine - she was supposed to have? That's not technically radiotherapy as most people think of it. It's much less severe to the body, with less side effects etc. So some people get confused if it's called radiotherapy and get the wrong idea.
When you say the cancer has spread into her glands, is that just the lymph nodes?
What would you like to know about a neck dissection? Also, do you know what type she'll be having? Like, is it just one side? One side and middle? Or both sides and middle? If you let me know, I'll do my best to give you some answers and the information you need.
Take care!
Lass
