Just home from seeing my oncologist and quite a lot buzzing around in my head.
He says my pre rai blood test was 6.3.
3 weeks after its 6.0
Hes not happy with that and says it should be near zero. Not sure which reading this refers to . I was a bit shocked.
He says the scans show massive activity at my neck and hes a little concerned about the lymph nodes that are there.
So more bloods in 6 weeks. Another scan and injections again followed by more bloods.
I feel ok about it as I'm pleased they are on my side !!
Hi Herbert
Hmm, that's all rather vague of your doctor, isn't it?
My guess would be he's talking of your thyroglobulin blood result - presumably taken before you had any thyrogen injections.
When I had RAI, I wasn't even ALLOWED to have blood tests for 6 weeks after treatment in case my evil radioactive blood should attack the phlebotemist and turn them into Spiderman - or something like that.
3 weeks isn't long for the radiation to have killed off your thyroid cells. I also don't know - and Lass and I have discussed this many times - how long thyroglobulin stays in the bloodstream and so how quickly it should be out of you after the thyroid cells have curled up their toes and keeled over.
More bloods in 6 weeks should give a more robust indication of whether the iodine is doing its magic. But I can't see they'd be able to do more thyrogen and follow up RAI for a good few months as your system should now be totally saturated with iodine.
Best wishes
Barbara

Hes increased my thyroxine too.
I'm not overly worried I think it's a waiting game...
You're absolutely right. These things don't get fixed overnight. It might not be a marathon but it's certainly not a sprint either. Probably more of a 5000 meters.
Best wishes

You are correct it was my thyroglobulin result he was looking at..
Seems a bit early having that test 3 weeks after rai. I'll see what the next one throws up
Thanks x
