Hi everyone I received a copy of a letter this morning sent from ENT to my GP saying the following.
TSH <0.01 FT4 24 Thyroglobulin 197 (0-115)
Her blood showed slight over replacement and I have asked her to reduce her thyroxine to 100mcg Monday to Friday and 125mcg on Saturday and Sunday.
Her baseline thyroglobulin levels are slightly high and I will monitor this.
I have planned to see her again in my clinic in 3 months.
Should I be worried about the comment regarding the Thyroglobulin?
I had TT on 11th Jan this year. I was told after OP that I didn't need anymore treatment. But know that the Thyroglobulin is our cancer maker.
Thanks
Jo
Hey Jo,
Certainly a chuckle worthy typo that one! Lol
So your op was in Jan? Do you know when those bloods were taken? How long was it between op and bloods being taken?

Thanks for that.
So, you're right in saying thyroglobulin is what's used to monitor you. This is because thyroglobulin is made by thyroid cells - healthy ones and cancerous ones. So no thyroid cells means no thyroglobulin. Which also means that if there's a consistent rise over our blood tests, then that often indicates the thyroid cells are multiplying.
After a TT, and after enough time has passed to allow hormones to readjust, then your TG should be as close to undetectable as possible. So a TT in Jan and blood tests in March, things should have readjusted and levelled out.
If I were you, I'd call your consultant or specialist nurse to ask about your TG result and why they aren't giving you RAI. Because I think I'd expect someone with that result to be getting some.
Hope that helps!

After I had my OP the surgeon told me that the cancer was contained and that the 6 lymph nodes they had taken out was all clear! I did ask him how big the actual cancer was and he said 16mm and that I didn't need any RAI.
When I saw the ENT on Wednesday he said they would check the next blood test which I have in 3 months time against this one (which was my first one) which I had on 14th March.
Does that make sense? Sorry I can't help but get worried sometimes.

Yup, makes perfect sense.
From what the surgeon saw during the op and the results they got back, then no more treatment makes sense to tell someone.
The ENT may be wanting to check again in 3 months time in case things hadn't stabilised yet with the TG. So they'll be hoping it will decrease in that time.
However, I'd still be asking the questions to see what they are thinking with their approach. Just because, we can guess and surmise, but only they can say for sure what their approach is and why. Then they can put your mind at ease as to what's going on and why.
Sorry I can't give you any definites.
