Hi peeps

Just got my results in from my latest blood test. I've had some significantly raised readings in the past, and I'm now booked in fir my second blast of RAI in late march. It appears to be heading in the right direction.....

Here's the numbers

Tsh 0.54 mu/L December was 16.6

Tg 14.1 ug/L November was 90

Anti Tg 12 was 20 last recorded

Free T4 22.6 (H)pmol/L was 11.2 in December

Anyone cast an eye over this?

Thanks

Guy

  • Hi

Looking good and definitely heading in the right direction. I would expect the docs to increase your dose a bit further to try to get you down to around 0.1 on TSH but the challenge (and I have the same) is not to let the FT4 run away with you.

The difference in the TgAB readings is probably not significant - both are good and low enough to not interfere with your Tg results and that's a fantastic drop on the Tg, especially if the December one was not 'stimulated' (do you know? was it done directly before your RAI?)

Let's see if that second RAI can finish what the first one started.

    Great progress.

    Best wishes

    Latest result

    Tsh 0.31

    T4 15.8

    T3 5.3

    :-)

I have my second round of zapping booked in for late march, 5500mbq this time, so no contact with my very huggy son for 12 days

  • Hello again,

How long elapsed between those two sets of results, please?

The new ones are probably better but with you posting them only a short time apart, it's hard to know what they mean.

Did you change dose and if so how long were you on the new one?

The changes look good (still a bit further to go on the TSH perhaps, depending on the above questions) but the really odd thing is your FT4 went down as your TSH dropped. Usually they go in opposite directions.

Did you make any other changes? For example taking supplements, a big weight change, or taking some other medication?

    Best wishes

The tests are only two odd weeks apart. I haven't changed dose, gained or lost weight. I've been more careful recently about not taking my levothyroxine with anything else, which I started doing a moth or so ago.

I have another round of rai to go in march, so I know I'm not clear, it's met'd to my lungs and chest, but not bones yet.

I received the blood test sample bag in the post. No explanation. No covering letter. Bit weird. So I just asked my surgery to take the test. It was sent to Taunton, but my oncologist is Exeter based, as was the sample bag. Taunton can't send it to Exeter....

  • Thanks Guy, that's really helpful.

Clearly whatever you changed about how you take the tabs really did work. You're getting better impact (lower TSH) out of the same dose AND keeping your FT4 down to a level at which you've got space to increase the dose without going too high.

Oh I do love it when the 'theoretical' advice turns out to work.

In the words of Hannibal Smith (from the A Team), "I love it when a plan comes together".

Regarding your mets, obviously nobody wants to have them, but so long as the iodine is doing its magic, your future still looks very positive. Good luck for your next trip to the world's crappest spa.

    Best wishes

Just had my results back from my latest tg test, which took a month to come back for some reason. 4.5 :-) yeah, nearly there.

But sadly my parathyroid has been totally fried, so I have no pth and thus no control over calcium levels, which mucks up the energy levels and makes me a moody sod.

    Hi Guy

Glad to see your Tg is going going..........next time hopefully gone....

sorry about parathyroids giving up.. that's a pain to have to control all that every day....

are you still taking Gaviscon etc for reflux? Just wondered because I've just been diagnosed with silent acid reflux and I'm sure that's what you said you had?

    Hope you are good otherwise.

Thanks, yes it's a pain, have to take calcium 3 x a day sometimes 4, plus magnesium, plus vitamin D. Also trying B12 for energy.

No, I now take renitidine for the stomach, as it turns out I had a slight hiatus hernia. Don't take omapromazole as it interferes with thyroxine.
