Papillary thyroid cancer

Hello all!! My 22 year old daughter diagnosed 5 months ago with classic PTC. No angio invasion. Had a hemi and removed left lobe and isthmus. Clear margins but noted on pathology that she had lymphatic invasion present. No angio invasion. Thought for sure they would want to remove rest of thyroid and do RAI but said no they will just watch. When I asked about the lymphatic invasion they said just microscopic tissue that is found. It is a good cancer center but I’m so nervous about leaving remnants. Anyone else have this happen to them and not had recurrence?

  • Hi   and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and, although I'm not a member of this group, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

It's natural to worry that your daughter's cancer may recur but hopefully she'll have been told by her treatment team what to look out for.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your daughter's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hi, this has not been my experience.  However my advice is to speak to the medical team so you understand their thinking. We know only so much and they need to ensure the patient understands.
    good luck
