Hello

I saw consultant and I am scared what will be next with my life....I am 45 and I was so excited to go back to uni and work only part time. I found out that I have two nodules :one is U3 and second one is U4 so consultant advised me to have surgery. They are going remove all thyroid. I do worry about surgery and complications, weight gain after being on hormonal therapy, tiredness, depression and unknown. Life is shit.I had an eating disorder for long time and now it is this. I hope I am going to live ...I know that some people have worse.I am sorry for moaning.

  • I have to sleep it off, when I finish work especially the weekend I kinda have to sleep/nap for a whole day to shake It off.

Fatigue is awful, I also sweat alot not been as bad because cold weather.

My bloods have been funny since I became ill and at first we didn't know I had thyroid cancer, I had Graves disease diagnosed just months before it so they werent perfect but not as bad as since.

Since all this started I've had a few diagnosis like Pcos, IBS, Gord, diverticular disease, I have X2 bulging discs now, my stupid periods are well stupid, I've fell 5 times this year and now I've somehow randomly tore a muscle in my arm without injuring it?!? I've also just had a growth removed in my nose which is getting biopsied.

Couldn't write these past few years, I used to have zero ailments now well it's stupid.

To answer your question yes people do die from it if it hasn't been caught early enough and manages to spread to other areas, cancer cannot be controlled so any cancer can kill, but thyroid well most grow slowly there is a few that are aggressive but show symptoms and can still be treated or managed through different pathways. So honestly I know it's scary but making sure you follow advice and don't stress too much, you've chosen to remove and they will make sure nothing looks sinister before they close.

    All the best x

  • You survive a lot Yellow heart

Can I ask please, do you still work?

  • Yes I am still working, I am doing 3-10 weekdays and 12-10 every second weekend. I used to work 7-10 but went back on half days to try and I do ok. Obviously I'm tired and now apparently have tore a muscle doing normal stuff?!? But work to me is a great distraction and music that's my saviour especially very loud, it helps drown out the bad thoughts xx

  • Hi

Have they advised when you are likely to have the surgery

  • Hello BlushI am having surgury 20 th of January.

  • I’m confirmed iodine radiation 13th January

  • My consultant told me that with this cancer surgury is usually enough so can I ask you why you ate having iodine radiation?

  • My Cancer has 25% Tall cell variant which was on the lab results after surgery when I had my follow up meeting with surgeon. Tall cell is more aggressive. So even although I was stage 2 the cancer was showing signs of being aggressive type so they are treating it more aggressively with large dose of iodine radiation which clears up any cells that are still floating around in your body . It’s like a clean up to ensure nothing left anywhere.

  • Most I’ve spoken to have the RIA as a clean up as some cells can be left behind after surgery not visible to the eye .

  • hi, the tall cell variant is pretty rare.  Mine was 50%. - diagnosed in January 2022.   TT and neck dissection in February 22.  I’ve had 2 doses of radioactive iodine - May 22 and January 23.
it’s good that they monitor us carefully as it is more aggressive and more likely to recur.
I had a questionable scan in May this year so had another in July  which showed no change.   Due a further scan in early March.  But mine is 50% rather than your 25% so hopefully yours won’t be so likely to recur.
    Fingers crossedBlush
