Adjusting to Levothyroxine

Hi everyone, hope you're all doing ok.

Just curious how people are doing adjusting to levothyroxine.

I had a total thyroidectomy about 6 weeks ago now and they had me on 200 micrograms until I get radioactive iodine treatment in ~3 months I'm told.

First few weeks after surgery I was fine but since then I've had issues.

In the 2nd week my heart rate spiked one evening and wouldn't come down, I was struggling to breath and couldn't swallow I was getting uncontrollable shaking. Called 111 as it was getting harder and harder to breath and they called an ambulance. Ended up in A&E. They took some blood and by the time the results came back 4h later my breathing had returned to normal so they discharged me and said was probably the meds. Struggled to swallow for a few days but it eventually returned to normal.

Early most evenings my heart rate still spikes and get minor breathing issues but usually settles down after 20-30 mins.

Over the past 4 weeks I've had probably 3-4 similar episodes to the 2nd week that I just ride out now. It can take 4-6 hours for it to pass but still have swallowing issues for a few days.

In the past 6 weeks I've also dropped about 10kg in body weight, I used to workout daily before the surgery so didn't really have much excess wieght on me.

I'd spoken with my ENT consultant a few times about this and last week they agreed to drop my dose to 150 micrograms as I said I can't be like this for another 3 months, so hopefully that will help.

Still feel a bit weird early evenings but nowhere near as bad, probably going to take a few weeks for my levels to settle.

Has anyone else had a similar experience and how have you got on ?

Thanks

Steve
