I am going to be having a thyroidectomy after getting Thy3f and Thy3a results following a second FNA. I've developed swallowing issues so the decision has been made to remove the whole thing as I have nodules on both sides.
I just wanted to ask what items helped others in their recovery such as a particular neck pillow? I'm going to find my V necked tops and I have a few dresses with lower necklines. Any advice would be appreciated as I should be having my surgery in a few weeks.
hi I recently had a right lobectomy after a THY3a result from my FNA. It was a confusing time—multiple ultrasounds, fine needle aspirations, and finally an MDT (multi-disciplinary team) discussion that still couldn’t determine if the nodule was benign or malignant. I hadn’t realized such uncertainty could be possible with today’s medicine, but I learned it’s not uncommon. Now, I’m waiting for the final histology report for a definitive answer. Here are a few things I found helpful during and after my hospital stay:
What I Packed vs What I Used:
I packed light pajamas with a V-neck, but in the end, I only used a vest. I was more comfortable that way, and it made accessing the neck area easier for checks and dressings.
Neck Support: I brought a neck pillow, but it didn’t work for me post-surgery. Instead, stacking a couple of regular pillows behind my back and neck gave me the support I needed, especially since I could only sleep on my back.Hair Prep: I put my hair in single plaits and pinned them up—this really helped keep hair out of the way and made things more comfortable while lying down.Eating and Drinking:Cold milkshakes were a lifesaver. Not only were they soothing, but they also helped ease some of the pain in my throat after surgery.I hope some of these small tips can help you feel a bit more prepared.
Hi Aiz,
Thanks for your reply, I keep being told that I have 'indeterminate' results so the doctors don't sound very sure so I am relieved in a way to hopefully be getting some answers.
I really appreciate you writing down what helped during your time in hospital, I'll take a few vests as well and see what works best.
Hope you don't have to wait too long for the histology report.
