Hello everyone,

my mum has been struggling to breathe for six weeks, seen her own gp he said possibly silent reflux, went back following week chest X-ray, went back following week antibiotics, that Saturday mum had a do where she couldn’t get her breath, dad called 999 ambulance people were amazing realised it was in mums neck asked hospital to get ready for ct scan on arrival, that came back mass in neck, sent home as it wasn’t his area and no meds could help at this time, next day ent dr rang asking to see mum, saw him he started ball rolling, mri, biopsy, ultrasound ordered, that Thursday mum had a do where she couldn’t get breath, I calmed her down and she was ok, dad rang a couple of hours later she’s had four more, we went straight to a&e, mum stayed in a week had biopsy and steroids, breathing was better so sent home, had outpatient appointment yesterday with thyroid specialist and he wanted her straight in hospital as it’s aggressive thyroid cancer, I’m scared but staying strong for mum.

sorry for long post

  • I am sorry you have to go through all that.

I am sure they will not make your mum wait for treatment.

    Good luck x

  • Thank you, IsabellFel, mum has had full body CT scan and a biopsy ultrasound, they took 4 samples so hopefully they should definitely know exactly what we are dealing with. X

  • That must have been very scary for you all with your mum struggling to breathe.  It does sound as though they are on to it now and hopefully will be able to sort your mum out quickly under the circumstances.  Please keep us informed as to how your mum is doing @Trace11 and I am sure she is in good hands x

  • Unfortunately it’s Anaplastic thyroid cancer and it’s inoperable, she can’t have chemo, she can have radiation and is booked in for Friday, they have said it might not work and not shrink it, we are hoping it will and we can have many more months with mum, I thought I would have years with her.

  • So sorry to hear that @Trace11 not the kind of news you want to receive but at least they know what they are dealing with now.  Fingers crossed that the radiation treatment will help and sending you big hugs and hoping you can stay strong for your mum's sake x

  • Thank you petal66, I will be with my mum every step of the way, I’ll try and make it as comfortable and stress free as possible x

  • I had to call ambulance as mums throat had swollen from radiation and she couldn’t breath, it was so scary for all of us, she’s still in hospital on intravenous steroids and antibiotics and blood thinners as they think she had heart attack too, radiation is on hold.

  • Oh my, I have just read your other message and replied but didn't realise it was so bad for your poor mum @Trace11.  Ignore my other question and sending big hugs for both you and your mum x

  • Thank you petal66, mum has improved and they are reducing her oxygen a bit, they are going to reduce her steroids tomorrow and have said to mum she might be able to go home, when she comes home we will need a few more things in place x

  • Good that she might be able to go home @Trace11 and you manage to get things in place for her and the steroids have given her some relief.  Fingers crossed for you both x
