Hi Lovely guys, just filling in hospital forms and discovered I was also having an Isthmectomy, is this the same as a thyroidectomy or is this something extra? So confused with it all
Vicky x
It's the central part of your thyroid gland apparently. I know I had central dissection but don't think that was mentioned on any letters and I didn't find out I was having it done until I was outside the anaesthetic room and the surgeon spoke to me. Up until then I had been told I having TT plus rh side neck dissection @Daisy7.
To be honest @Daisy7 I don't know either. When I received letters after my appointments I always went through everything and looked up anything I wasn't sure about, but you would have thought that some things would have been mentioned prior to your operation. Do you have a date for your operation?
Hi Petal, next op on 28th June so a bit to go yet then RAI 6 weeks after. I just read your profile, you really have been through a lot. I am sorry to hear about your voice, mine is really hoarse and i do feel a little concerned about the next op
I hope yours gets sorted soon
Snap with the Tall Cell Variant which I only found out at my first Oncologist appointment which was 4 months after my operation. So you are being advised to have full TT, there does seem to be a lot of people who have a hemi to then find out the rest of it needs to come out. At least you have tried to hang on to half but sounds the best thing to do.
So there are 3 of us here with the tall cells…. I await a follow up ultrasound and thyrogen/blood test after my recent second lot of RAI in late January, in time for oncologist appointment on July 12. Just hate being a patient so very much!
We'll get there @Gold Finch hope the tests are good and the US shows there is no concern x
It is hard being a patient! It's difficult what we are all going through and the waiting for results and next treatment almost harder than the actual treatment, I feel like I am on some kind of roller coaster of emotions. I hope your next ultasound and tests are good x
