Hi All, I am new here, hope everyone doing well.

Can anyone advise symptoms which lead to diagnose of thyroid cancel.

I have had a pain behind my right ear for months, in the few weeks this has become more of a pressure in my head causing headaches. In the last week I have got worse and I have been to a&e 3 times as I am nauseous and weak. They have given me pain relief and a ct scan which was thankfully clear. I saw an ent specialist on Thurs who has noticed nodules on my thyroid and referred me for a ct scan Monday.

Am not worried of it being thyroid cancer as I am positive if it is. However my symptoms are concerning me as I am not reading any other stories experiencing these Cold sweat

Thank you Dani x

  • Hi Dani, sorry to hear you are suffering with headaches and nausea.  My symptoms were a hoarse voice and I found a lump (nodule) in my neck.  Other than feeling weepy, but I had other things going on at the time which I put down to that, I didn't feel anything at all.  I also have asthma and I know inhalers can make your voice hoarse so didn't even think anything of that.  It turned out that one side of my vocal cords was paralysed and after surgery always will be.  But the operation is out of the way and now I am waiting for my appointment to arrange my RAI treatment.  I hope your CT scan is ok for Monday, let me know when you get your results.

  • Hi Dani

I am pleased you are having further investigations and hope they identify the issue quickly.
My own experience was that I had no symptoms of thyroid cancer at all, rather I had a harmless cyst on my thyroid last November which led me to contact my GP who referred me for an ultrasound which showed a dodgy lymph node in my neck.  I had my thyroid and some lymph nodes removed in February and then radioactive iodine treatment in May.  I’m having scans at the end of November to check the situation.

Without the cyst I would probably still not know about the disease.   Very lucky!
I hope things become clearer for you very soon.  Do let us know how you get on.

  • Hello.

For a few months to a year before being diagnosed I've had a bit of hoarseness without any pain. A bit of dry throat. I didn't associated it with anything really as had tests done and all were good. But then I've noticed a lump on the left side of my neck and even then I didn't think a lot about it. Had telephone conversation with GP and he said deffo lymph nodes as probably you have infection. So I left it at that. And then few months later I saw another GP with something else and mentioned this old lump and she said she is seriously concerned and send me for scan and biopsy in 2 weeks time. I must say after seeing radiographer lady reaction I started to be a bit scared. She was trying really hard to not let go of her thoughts but she avoided looking me in the eyes when I asked her how does it looks like. She just said there is something there. And as she was about 50-60 years old she probably saw that before and knew. And then 2 weeks later had ENT appointment where the consultant confirmed it's pappilary thyroid cancer.
