Hi everyone I have a 4cm nodule on my thyroid. I have had 2 FNAs which were inconclusive and I’m scheduled to have a right hemi thyroidectomy in 2 weeks time. they told me originally that my operation would be around march but after the last ultrasound they brought it forward to January which scared me.
the ultrasounds show it has grown 10mm in the last 6 months and it is now very uncomfortable and aches constantly all the way round my throat and up to my ear.
I know I need to wait for the op and test results to find out if it’s malignant or not but my question is is it more likely to be cancer because of the speed of growth and the discomfort? All the sites on the internet don’t mention pain and discomfort so I am letting my mind do overtime overthinking this.
thanks for reading this x
Hello, that's a good question.
I think the answer is probably not. There are many different things that can make your lump grow but growing faster doesn't necessarily mean it's cancer.
Cancers can grow very slowly.
Cancers can grow very quickly.
Benign lumps can do the same.
There's probably nothing to be gained by second guessing. The good thing is that you'll get your op soon and then you're going to know where you stand. For most people, the not knowing is hard.
Best wishes
Barbara
