Hi There,
I am due to have a TT and lymph nodes removed (right hand side of neck) in the next few weeks. After my papillary cancer diagnoses. RAI to follow.
I just wanted some advice about how it is to live with the medication? I read so many conflicting accounts online.
I am a fit 39 year old and I read that weight increases quite significantly after TT removal ( I know it’s not the most important thing in the world - but I just have no idea what to expect). I have read about mood changes? Body aches and Pains? I have 2 young children and I’m worried I maybe a different person? I need to switch off google I think!
Also, I have seen that the v shaped neck pillow is quite helpful to use after surgery - has anyone tried this?
Any feedback or advice would be very much appreciated.
thanks so much
a scared fellow patient.
Jas
Hi Jas, I did put on weight after TT but I believe this was due to inactivity and comfort eating more than the medication and they put you on a higher dose to start and then tweak it as you go along. At first I struggled with appetite/feeling cold/mood swings but this only lasted a couple of weeks after surgery and mood swings were probably largely due to the trauma of cancer diagnosis aged 25!
I had no physical discomfort after surgery really, just couldn’t move my neck for a bit but I wasn’t in pain. I would deffo switch off google for the time being!
Hope this helps,
Lydia x
Hi Jas, I’m 3 months post op and found that after surgery sleeping propped up on lots of pillows worked a treat for those first 2 weeks. It surprisingly wasn’t painful, just a bit achey and stiff but there are gentle stretching exercises they can give you to help with that. I lost a bit of weight and didn’t have any other aches or pains. As for mood... well that depended on how the children were behaving that day lol but nothing that different to usual, a few good and bad days but I think that was mainly coming to terms with things and natural worries. I hope it all goes well for you
