Does anyone know for how many years they give you the 3 monthly follow up MRI scans to check for metastases or recurrent new cancers?

Not being a member of this forum I don't know what the normal length of time is for MRI scans if you've had thymus cancer.
If you don't get any replies here, then your son's CNS should be able to tell him or you could post your question in the Ask a Nurse section of the online community.
