Hi im about to undergo treatment for testicular cancer to which i have been told is going to be brutal,
to start my story i found a lump back in February this year and thought nothing of it as i was not in any pain at all and had my wedding to plan,to cut a long story short,i got married on may the 13th to my partner of 17 years,i told her about the lump the week before as i wanted our day to be special. We had not planned on getting married this year but due to finding out in september las year that my mother had stage 4 lung cancer we decided to go ahead and plan our wedding while my mother was still around. From the time i went to my GP which was the week after our wedding,my world got turned upside down and has been a roller coaster. From seeing to GP to getting seen by specialist took no more than 2 days and cannot thank Glan clwyd hospital enough.
i had my testicle removed on June the 16th but the night before i found another lump higher up on my groin,i informed the consultant the day of the operation and they removed 4 lymph nodes on the day as well as my testicle,2 of those also had cancer in them.
On the 31st of july i will be attending Bangor hospital in north wales where im under the car of DR Ann mullard,my treatment is going to consist of 3 days of intensive chemo and 3 weeks at home where i will also have to inject myself as well as taking various tablets,my treatment is going to last till the end of november and by that time i hope that i will be clear????
Im not looking forward to the treatment and to say im worried and scared of the unknown is an understatement,
I would like to get to know other peoples stories about how they dealt with it and what to expect
Many thanks
Hi oddball
i expect your out the worst of it now. Hope you’re feeling a lot better now it’s done with. Mine wasn’t as far gone as yours so not really comparable but nether the less it’s a worrying time to say the least.
I’m 15 months clear now and just had a ct which was all good. all
the best
im only on my second course of chemo atm ,j have another 2 to go that will take me to the middle of October, found the first session really difficult ,due to sickness etc but the worse of it was the pin i was in from having the injections every night for 10 days,by the 9th day i was in that much pain i spent 18 hours in a and e where they hadn't a clue what was wrong later found out its a side affect of something to do with my bone marrow etc,i really considered not going any further with the treatment, but the hospital have given me pain killers and morphine now to help combat that issue.Time will tell now how i cope with the secong course as i have on,y ben home a day or so,so fingers crossed.
Not had it as bad as you, Had testicular caner in 2022, in 2023 during one of the follow up scans it was found to have spread to the lymph node my treatment was one blast of chemo and 15 radiotherapy sessions. currently waiting for my follow up scan.
The unknown and the waiting are some of the worst parts of this disease i have found.
