Prosthetic testicle

Hi all,

Was just wondering on people's views about having a prosthetic testicle put in when having one removed?

Tom's surgery is on 3rd October, and he's undecided about whether to have one put in or not.  He really doesn't want to have more surgery after this one (he's also having lymph nodes removed, so quite big surgery) so if he doesn't get it now, I don't think he'll get one at all.  Popping one in at a later date isn't really an option.

Has anyone had one put in? Has anyone not had one put it?  I've heard that if you don't the remaining testicle balances out, but wouldn't it feel a bit strange just having one?  Although I thought that some men look like that only have one anyway??

Sorry for rambling, just trying to help my hubby decide what to do.  I don't mind either way, its down to him, he's so undecided he's even put a poll on his facebook page!!!

thanks in advance :)

Clair

Hi all I had my right testicle removed in Feb 2017. I didn't bother with a false nut due to reading about infections or the body rejecting whatever that entails? Me personally I wouldn't have a false one if you paid me. Just my opinion. I'm happy the way it looks feels . I'm so happy I didn't have a false one.

    Hi

I had my right testicle removed 2 weeks ago and had a false one put in at the same time. Since having the false one put in i have found it very uncomfortable it is larger and a lot heavier then the real one and also can not get comfy sitting on in bed, so I will be asking my surgeon on Wed 26th (tomorrow) to have it removed.

There is one question i would like to ask everyone one.

After the op did anyone find that their right thigh was numb ? and also does anyone keep getting a dead leg now and then

I had a numb inner thigh for about 6 months. It gradually recovered and didn't make any difference physically, just felt a bit weird.

    Hi Dez,

Like Mbul part of my thigh was numb for a number of months- groin also.  2 years on I still have a small area below the scar still numb but wouldn't notice it.  Don't worry- it will improve!

I asked about a prosthetic righty and the urologist said they don't do that at the time of removal. If you want one, they'll do it afterwards. I have gotten comfortable with only having Lefty. Makes sitting easier, no two children fighting over room for one.

As for the tingling. Oh gawd. Drove me freaking nuts!  Felt like pins and needles in my thigh, groin, and recently vacated sack. I could even feel it in my shaft. It was like you could draw a straight line down the middle. Left side was fine. Right side?  DON'T TOUCH IT!!!   I asked at my first quarterly checkup and was told that it was normal as the nerves rejoin and that it would go away soon. Two or three months.

Soon?   That's not soon. Soon is tomorrow of next week.  <sigh>

I know this is late but hopefully someone gets a chance to read it when deciding on having a prosthetic.

I didn't have cancer but hd testicular torsion and had to have a teaticle removed. I was 19 at the time and in a seriousish relationship at the time (less than a year), we've been together 9 years now and are getting married now.

I had the testicle removed, thought about having a prosethic for a few months before deciding I wanted one. I didn't like the way one looked.

Big mistake. I regret having one put in. It's 8 years later and I think I want it taking out. That's how I got to this page; reading up on stuff.

It's too big and too hard. It's like a conker in there. It feels so inrealistic it's untrue. It's bigger than the real one. But that wouldn't be such a problem if it wasn't so hard. It genuinely feels like a conker with a small squiggy silicone coating.

It's so uncomfortable. It crushes my real one all the time. It's annoying just trying to sit. But sleeping it's even more annoying. Laying on one side it just squashes the real one and makes it feel uncomfortable. Sometimes it makes me get legit ballache in my real one. The doctors believe it's causing my real one to have something similar to epididimitis. Basically the heavy fake one is getting above the real one when I'm sleeping and it's pushing it down, making the tube that connects your ball stretch. I have days of ballache then and it feels like the very first part of testicular torsion come on.

The only reason I haven't had it removed is that it's time and effort. We've been trying for a kid and I didn't want any more trauma down there,  time off work and money etc.

I know it's completely anecdotal, it's only my experience and everyone is different. You may not feel the same.

But I 100% suggest that you feel the prosthetic first. I didn't get a chance too, they just told me it's very realistic.

    Hi,

Just to let you know I was misdiagnosed with testicular cancer in 2014 and had a prosthetic inserted during the orchidectomy. I too found it very hard and uncomfortable especially as I like to sleep on my front. I rang the hospital and they booked me in 2 weeks later and I had it removed. The surgery took about 15 minutes, I was awake throughout and it was no trouble at all. I did get a quote at the time for private and that was about ÂŁ3,000 but luckily the NHS did it for me.

    Cheers,

    Paul

    Hi guys

I’ve had an orchidectomy to remove my left testicle and all healing nicely. I didn’t go for the prosthetic and not sure if I will in the future. But if I did decide to have a prosthetic inserted, does anyone know how they actually do it please? Would they go in through my groin and through the existing scar or would they go in through the scrotal sac?

    Many thanks

  • Hi,

I had mine done at the same time as my orchidectomy, but I think if you go for the 'aftermarket' option then the entry is the same - it being somewhat difficult to stitch a scrotum.

I'm very happy with being bionic, but also a lot of people on here are just as happy without.
