Guys,
I had an orchiectomy on the 20th December, after the discovery of two lumps in mid November, I'm waiting on the pathology results which is stressful.
I had the prosthesis fitted, which is more uncomfortable than I expected, today at plus ten days is my first day without pain from either the scar or scrotum, however my right outer thigh almost to my knee has been numb since the operation. It's not decreasing and is almost painfully numb!
Does anybody have experience of this? Did they remove my lymph nodes, and perhaps this is the reason for the numbness, thanks in advance :) Matt
Hi Matt,
Sorry to hear you are one of us, and that you now have a bionic ball too.
It takes a fair while for all the existing discomfort to go - you might yet still get some phantom twinges, a dragging feeling, some grumpy nerve endings, and aching in the spare testicle as it groans under the duty of doing the work of two.
I reckon a month, maybe two, for the prosthesis to feel like part of the furniture down there. Perhaps a little more than that for numbness below the scar to go, and for the hard ridge under it to disappear. Keep an eye out for mood swings from low testosterone as the spare adjusts. In some cases it doesn't and you need supplements to make up the rest. So if you find yourself to be severely irritable to stress, get your T levels checked.
They didn't take any leg lymph nodes, the ones of concern are abdominal and that's a whole different procedure if needed, and is rare. How mobile have you been? You need to get that leg checked for DVT - have a chat with the oncology dept tomorrow, or your GP.. if you can't get through to them, then please use NHS 111. You don't need anything else to happen on top of this! Please, definitely get it checked, tomorrow (well today looking at the clock...)
I hope your results come back quickly, and everything is contained, and any further treatment is surveillance or just precautionary,
Greg
Hi Greg,
Thanks for your advice previously :) I had my letter checked, and was told that I vomited undsr anaesthetic when having the I/O, and was aggressively roles into the recovery position, trapping a nerve, which is causing the numbness from hip too knee. Apparently this will ease over six months back to normal.
One other question, I'm really regreting having the prosthesis, I'm on amitriptyline to block the nerve pain I'm getting in the immediate area, and down my right leg, it also feels like it's been anchored at the top, as it's causing pain along the ingunal canal I presume, I mean stop and yelp pain, is this normal in your experience?
Many thanks, I hope you're well.

Hi,
They must have loved you ! You do that in a taxi and they'll empty your wallet for the cleaning fee..
Sorry to hear the prosthesis is troubling - were your eyes bigger than your, errr, scrotum, and you went for a big one? I decided I didn't need a rosette from the County Fayre and was modest.
Joking aside, it does take a couple of months to settle, and yes the odd yelp is not uncommon. Can you tough it out for another month? I don't think I had the anchoring stitch - perhaps someone else can comment?
Greg
