Hi All,

I am new to this forum but I have been reading all the posts for the past month or so which has really helped me come to terms with things, so a big thank you to everyone who has shared their journeys and treatments etc it really has helped with my anxiety. So I thought I would share a little of my details at the moment.

Things seem to have gone very fast over the past month as listed below,

I’m a 55 year old man,

I Found lump on my left testicle so I went to see GP a week later after getting the courage on May 9th she referred me for an urgent ultrasound,

I then had an ultrasound on May 15th which confirmed a testicular mass on my left testicle.

I then Had urology appointment on May 21st to confirm the findings , blood test also taken. Booked for operation and CT scan.

CT scan May 22nd,

Bloody test results came back as normal / slight raised - not sure what that means to be honest.

Pre-op May 27th all fine to go ahead,

Main operation to remove testicle yesterday June 3rd,

I am in a bit of pain but it’s manageable at the moment, just waiting now for the results of the CT scan, and histology results from the removal.

Thanks

Ian

  • Hi and welcome to the uniballer gang. Glad all is going fast for you. It was the same for me. I'm not 2 years past surgery and everything has been mostly plain sailing. If you have anything troubling your mind along the way don't hesitate to send a message on here. This place has been great for sharing and gaining information for me. Next few weeks might be a bit uncomfortable but you will be up and moving about like normal in no time. Enjoy the rest of you ask me. Sometimes life can get a bit busy so this is a good excuse to do sweet bugger all or what you want :)

  • Welcome to the club!

it sounds like the people looking after you acted quickly and that is good.   They are usually quick with the lab work so you won’t have to wait too long for the complete picture.

Get moving about when you can even if it is only a small amount, the discomfort will recede in a week or two.

     Be kind to yourself…

  • Thank you for your reply :)  much appreciated

  • Thank you for you reply it’s much appreciated:)

  • I changed my dressing yesterday as instructed and gently cleaned the area, it’s a long cut down my groin and it looks like they have used staples, no one mentioned this part and not sure who to contact or when to get them removed, I’m going to check again tomorrow though when I next change the dressing.

I may of still been a bit groggy when the nurse spoke to me to be honest I mostly remember them giving my spare dressings and advice when to change them and when I can get a shower etc.

    Thanks

    Ian

  • The staple will disintegrate on their own usually. Mines did

  • So just another update, I had my appointment today to see the Urolgy Doctor for my results from my biopsy after my operation and CT scan,

I have been informed that my cancer is non-seminoma ( teratomas ) and my CT scan shows it has spread to my lymph nodes as they are very slightly larger than normal, he also stated they can see a few very small nodules on my lungs as well,

I am now waiting for an appointment at Clatterbridge Cancer Hospital as my case has been handed over to them for further treatment and they will go through all my options with me then,

my mind sort of went blank so didn’t really ask any questions, so I’m going to write some down for my next appointment.

  • Another update,

Since my last post I have got my appointment through which is for Thursday 4th July to see the oncologist for my first appointment and guessing my treatment plan and I also got sent a copy of the letter sent to my GP with the biopsy results and CT scan results,

I am confused as there is no staging listed but also the letter sent to the doctor has different results than what the nurse had highlighted in the information book she gave me,

I remember when I went in to see the Consultant about my results and as I sort of went blank when he was going through things I thought I remembering him stating I had 100% seminoma and it had spread etc, the nurse said I have highlighted all the relevant details in the book, when I got home still sort of in shock I started reading the book and noticed the nurse had highlighted non-seminoma and teratoma so was slightly confused and thought I had miss heard what the consultant had said until I got the GP letter which stated Seminoma 100% .

I am going to question this with the oncologist on Thursday and take my letter and book with me, this is hard enough to deal with without being told different things.

    Thanks

  • How are you doing now Ian? By the way I am also in my 50's, we are amongst the rare ones to get it later in life.

  • Hi,

sorry I meant to update this thread,

I had 4 sessions of EP staying in hospital each time for 5 days every 3 weeks,

I had leaks on each arm so ended up having a picc line inserted which was much better and had all my treatments,

a month after my treatments finished I had another CT scan and all my bloods checked and the chemo done its job and everything had gone to normal ( big sigh of relief )

I am now on a monitoring plan, had a 3 month scan all was fine so they’ve changed it to a 6 month scan now to monitor for any changes.

nearly everything has gone back to normal but do have some side effects, hearing loss and peripheral nerve disease both may be temporary or permanent but I’m managing with that with some tablets.

Thank you for asking Slight smile
