Hello everyone,
I suddenly lost my appetite and am finding it hard to eat or even drink. My doctor found a mass in my stomach and I’m booked for a gastroscopy in five days.
She also advised me to have soups, milk shakes and energy drinks. I’m managing scrambled eggs for lunch and a small bowl of cereal for breakfast, but would ask if anyone has any suggestions for meals apart from that. I’m too tired to cook much, so simple things please
My father died of stomach cancer and I’m so frightened of going the same way. I’m not young any more and live alone, so no one to give me a hug and talk about it.
if you have any suggestions, please let me know.
Hello,
I am so sorry you are going thru this. I can understand your fear. I am booked for a full gastrectomy Oct 15. I am also terrified.
I am in the process of gaining weight. I have asked my GP for a prescription for Ensure Compact. This has made such a difference for me. It is a meal replacement drink. I use it to enhance my diet, not supplement. I find it better than protein drinks. Overnight oats are a great breakfast option. Made with greek yogurt, and full fat milk. You make the consistency to your preference.
This is alot to deal with on your own. It is so overwhelming, and can be all consuming. This site can be very infornative and helpful. I hope you find answers and some peace very soon.

Thank you so much Annie. Oddly I did manage a bowl of oats this morning, it took me about an hour to eat it, but I managed to.
I’m sorry you are also feeling terrified but to be honest, I would be too in your situation. I’ve yet to find out how bad mine is and truthfully I don’t think they will operate as I’m old. My dad had an awful last few months before dying. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.
I will certainly look into meal replacements, I didn’t know you could get them.
I wish you all the luck in the world with your operation.

I am praying that the gastroscopy goes well and the results are positive. I think the waiting and not knowing is the worst. Our minds wonder to dark places. We begin to think the worst. Try to think positive while you wait. Stay away from the 'what if's'.
I forgot to mention, ice cream...I have been eating ice cream everyday for a few months now. Its a great treat and can be very comforting!!
Thank you for your kind words,
Annie
