Hi. Im new here. I was diagnosed with "lesser curve gastric poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma T3 N0 M0" on 12 August 2025. I am on a curative pathway but that could change, presumably.
My symptoms were gastritis and a hiatus hernia for which i have been being treated for 3 years. After a gastroscopy for these symptoms I was shell shocked to find out I had cancer.
I started on FLOT but after less than 10 minutes of the first round I had a bad reaction to the docetaxel and had it stopped immediately.
I started again in a few days with the rest of the drugs minus the doxetaxel.
I have suffered terribly with nausea and neuropathy, especially sensitivity to anything cold.
After today's infusions, the nausea has subsided to mild but the neuropathy had got a lot worse. I wonder if anyone else is or has followed the same pathway or had a similar experience on FLOT.
Kind regards
Lin
Hi Lin
I was diagnosed with stomach cancer November 2024.
I had 4 rounds of FLOT before my total gastrectomy then 4 rounds FLOT after.
Sensitivity to anything cold was immediate, neuropathy got worse with each chemo session, Nausea was always there.
Finished chemo mid august.
having acupuncture for my neuropathy in January as feet still not great, fingers starting to improve.
I would wear gloves to get things out the fridge and put the washing out. The cold weather doesn’t help.
take care

Hi Michelle
Thanks for replying. Its good to hear from someone who has gone through the same thing. I hope all is improving for you.
I'm not looking forward to surgery but its the only way forward so, bring it on !!
How are you coping with food?
Best wishes, Lin x
Morning Lin,
I am getting there thankyou.
I wish I had gone on this site sooner as would have helped me so much. I left it till after surgery and had started on my 6th FLOT.
Your approach to the surgery sounds just like me. It is the only way!
I come from an Italian family - love different foods and don’t do small portions.
Before surgery I ate everything in sight that i loved incase I couldn’t have it again.
After surgery I am coping with food ok. You are given information on discharge on what to do. I took it really slowly. I can eat most things but in a smaller portion.
I find keeping hydrated more difficult but has got a lot better.
I now have to take an enzyme medication called Creon as I am not absorbing food as well now, but looking at others comments on this site I know it not uncommon.
I hope you are resting today and please take care

Hi Michelle
Yes i am resting. Thanks for the insights.
I am doing exactly the same, eating everything I like. We are having a pre Christmas family weekend in case my surgery is before Christmas !! I just know im going to struggle with the food and drink post op - but again, it has to be done so I'll do my best. Anything to get rid of the cancer.
It sounds like you are slowly getting through it. Well done you.
Take care

Hi Lin, I was diagnosed with much the same as you and had 4 rounds of FLOT prior to a total gastrectomy in August. I have found it really difficult with the food side of things as much like you I loved to eat. I also have the dumping syndrome and now take Creon before every food I eat. I’m slowly getting to grips with that. Three weeks ago I had my 5th chemo and it’s knocked me for six. I’m nauseous all the time and ended up in hospital for 2 days. No medication seems to control this persistent nausea and it’s getting me down. I should have had chemo yesterday but it was deferred until next week. I’ve lost a great deal of weight and don’t look like me at all. I know it’s early days but it sounds as if you’ve got the determination to beat this, I hope I have too.
Take care
Janet
