Hello, just looking for a bit of encouragement and information here.
My husband 46 had a subtotal gastrectomy a couple of days ago and he's doing very well although he's in a lot of pain and even the strong painkillers are not doing much for him. He's a tough guy and it worries me that something might be wrong. Can you please let me know about your experience after gastrectomy please?
Thank you
Hi
I had really good pain relief after surgery including one on a line directly into my abdomen. So the pain was very well managed.
It is major surgery so it takes time to recover. There should be a pain management team within the hospital who should be able to advise if the current pain relief isn’t working.
Hopefully it will get better in a couple of days!

Hi, when I had my total gastrectomy, I had the pain relief changed a few times until I had one that helped… mind you it did make me very sleepy… the nurses did say it was the medication that was causing it… the pain relief management team were fantastic… unfortunately after the surgery it is quite painful for quite a few weeks… I do hope your husband gets comfortable soon…
Take care…
Michele
