At the age of 17 due to FAP I had a Panproctocolectomy so ended up with a permanent ileostomy. Now at the age of 70 I've been told to consider a total gastrectomy so I'm trying to find out if it's worth having the op. and living with an ileostomy and without a stomach. At the moment I'm able to go out on long walks and cycle rides and would like to continue doing so. Due to the FAP I'll still be at risk of cancer so such a hard decision to make without knowing of anyone that has coped with both ops.
Hi GanGan and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I haven't had either of these procedures but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list where it'll be more easily seen.
I can see that you've had a reply from one of the specialist nurses to the same question you posted in ask an expert with some really helpful information. In case you haven't seen the reply clicking here will take you straight there.
Wishing you all the best with whatever decision you make
