Hello my names Kathy I’ve recently have been diagnosed with advanced stomach cancer.I’ve got my first appointment with my oncologist tomorrow for palliative chemo.Really hoping chemo slows it down.I told my children yesterday I was surprised by how much they knew about cancer being young.I’m scared for my kids have to fight hard for them.My work place is very supportive they cook dinners every day for us which I’m finding a blessing.
Hi Kathy, sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I hope the oncologist will give you some good advice on what’s going to happen tomorrow with your treatment. Mine was really thorough on what to expect with side effects etc with the FLOT that I’ve been having.
It’s surprising how resilient children are when they have things explained to them. So glad to hear your workplace is supportive, it really helps and takes the pressure off, mine are supportive too.
All the best with your appointment tomorrow!
Michele
Dear Kathy
Thank you for responding to my message. My very best wishes to you. I hope the best for your treatment tomorrow and that you are as comfortable as possible during it. I feel confident you'll be given great advice and expertise. This has been.my own experience.
I have my first course of chemo in 5 days time on Friday.

Not all my biopsy results have come back yet.My oncologist wants them all before he can decide on best drugs to give.I had my bloods done today to check that I’m suitable for oral chemo.I should start my treatment in 2 weeks time.My oncologist wants me to have heart scan and ct before treatment.
Good luck for Friday x
Hello Kathy
Hope you're ok.
Fri 18march.I had my first cycle of FLOT. I was at Macmillan cancer support Ctre, part of UCLH.
Was there for 6 hours. Great place, great expertise. I had a PICC line inserted. Then was given Docataxel qWas given a pump attached to PICC line, thru which Fluororuacil aka 5FU was pumped over 36 hrs. Will be removed by them on sunday 12noon. Two types of anti sickness tablets are given.
I felt better , much better Sat morning! More energy, fresher, less of a fuzzy head, not much of a headache. This morning, Sunday, too feeling noticeably better than I have done in last few weeks.
I should point out that i also have prostate cancer. I am taking bicalutomide 50mg for that and am having a meeting on Thursday 24march about that. Am informed it's rare to have prostate and stomach cancer together at same time.
Best wishes
Joe x

Hello
I was a bit nervous yes, ha!
Feeling a bit zonked out this evening Sunday, but nothing severe. Went for a bike ride today through London stopping at UCLH to get PICC line removed.
Good luck on what drugs they decide. I hope you can keep in touch.
I was wondering if you'd let us know what your symptoms were and what you think might have caused your stomach cancer, if anything.
In my case, I suspect it was over eating, eating poorly, binge eating, too much booze, too many binge drinking... Ha ha, felt ok at the time and had a good amount of fun but looks like it all came back to haunt me!
Best regards Joe x
My symptoms started last June I was eating my dinner swallowed a mouthful the food seemed to feel stuck.Gave me bad feeling wasn’t right I finally got to speak to my GP.So hard to get an appointment last June.I went for Barium swallow test it came back as no obstructions. My GP wanted me to have endoscopy not that swallow test it was upto hospital. My portion sizes started shrinking I had that stuck feeling really hurt.I became gassy with food and drink was tired.I put the tiredness down to not eating much.
I made another appointment with my GP in sept he saw me this time checked my abdomen it was soft.He prescribed meds for the acid reflux.By oct my portion size was tiny symptoms were amplified I’d lost 6kg still thought it was from not eating much.Went back to my GP my main problem was getting appointments. He referred me for ultrasound I got that in Jan my Gp rang me to see me I knew this will be bad news.He told me I have fluid around my organs he referred me for ct scan and finally a endoscopy. This was end Jan by now had ct scan didn’t hear anything from that in early feb had endoscopy. My biopsy’s came back negative the endoscopy doctor warned me they probably will come back negative with this type of cancer that I’d need further investigations had staging laraposcopy at the beginning of March which confirmed I have Linitus plactica can never spell that.Prognosis is short but I need to be positive to get as much life as I can for my children. They can’t offer surgery can’t cure it but offered chemo and ammunotherapy.Just feels like a long wait.
I had a eating disorder 15 years ago maybe it’s from that I don’t have any medical history really.I am scared to leave my children I’m all they have.

Hello Kathy
Thanks for the generous response. I don't know quite what to say, not good at this, but I'm certain your children love their mummy so much and that you will live on forever in their hearts and minds and they will be alright because of the way you brought them up and people will help. Keep up your spirits Kathy. Xx Joe
